We didn't want to build either of those.
Tochato started from a simpler question: what if the point of video chat wasn't to imitate something else, and wasn't to watch — but to actually meet someone? Specifically, someone from somewhere you've never been, who sees the world a little differently than you do.
Every day, Tochato connects people who would probably never cross paths otherwise — different countries, different first languages, different everything, and a shared video window in between.
We keep it simple on purpose: one person, one conversation, live on camera. No crowds, no performances, no scripts. Most conversations end up happening in whatever language both people share — English, often — because that's just how people meet in the middle in real life too.
It won't be the right app for everyone, and that's fine. It's built for the person who'd rather have one honest conversation with a stranger from another country than scroll past a hundred profiles.
No. Tochato is not built around romance or matchmaking. It is built around meeting real people from other places — what two people make of a conversation is up to them, but that is not the premise of the product.
No. Nobody is performing on Tochato. Every conversation is two real people talking to each other, not one person watching the other.
Not right now. Most conversations happen in a language both people already share — often English — rather than through automatic translation.
Not currently. Tochato is built around one-on-one conversations — just you and whoever you are matched with.
